Snow day

Some days, it’s about listening to your body. Some days, it’s not about the plan, it’s about using your wisdom.

And so with no formal dispensation from my coach, I made the executive decision to skip my swim workout today. My back — from shoulders to rear end — is still sore from my shoveling marathon the past day and and a half after a lake effect snow band decided to set up shop right over my neighborhood.

Instead of running yesterday, I shoveled and spent time on my bike trainer.

Today, with one more round of shoveling (with much help from Best Boyfriend, who also brought much needed Tim Hortons coffee and a brand new shovel) my car was free to travel the area. Only, traveling the area was still rather tricky. Streets were still unplowed. Cars were buried on the side of the road and trucks, attempting to make their deliveries, were blocking significant portions of thoroughfares, already narrow and made even tighter with the snow piles.

Quickly, I decided that my 800 yard main set followed by 6×25 yard sprints was less significant than reloading my food supply, resting my back and getting to work.

And so, I took a snow day. Or, more accurately, a rest day from my snow day.

And I’m letting it go.

Because life is not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about how you adjust to the twists and turns.
